How to Play Tennis?
Although it is physically demanding, it is a sport that people of almost all ages like to play. The matches of this sport, played between two people or in teams of two, are experienced with great excitement.
In tennis, the game starts with one of the athletes throwing a serve. The service is performed from outside the field by first leveling the area to the right of the center line of the field. The person who meets the service also stops at the cross area. The person using the service has to throw it into the cross-zone.
The lines that define these zones are not the outer line of the field, but the lines on the inner part. If the person who throws the service misses the service, if the person who throws the service throws the ball into the net, or if the person who throws the service fails to throw the ball into the area where he should throw it, this becomes an error. If the error is repeated twice in a row, the opposing side wins one point.
If the person who throws the service drops the ball by hitting the opponent’s court into the net, this is not considered an error, but the service is repeated. In this case, no numbers are written on either side. Even the side that knocks the ball into the net and drops it into the opponent’s field gently apologizes to the other fan. This is also one of the unwritten etiquette rules of tennis.
What is tennis?
Tennis is a kind of sports game played between two people or between two teams of two people. The goal of the game is to send the ball to the opponent through the net and make the opponent miss the ball. The ball that falls or goes out on the opponent’s court for the second time earns the player a number. Tennis, played with a racket and a ball, is one of the most dynamic sports due to balls sent from end to end and moves that require speed.
A total of 12 referees are working in international tennis competitions in order to follow the game in the most ideal way. These consist of six line judges, two backline judges, two service judges, a net judge and a center/tower judge. As a result of the undecided moves in the game, the chief referee can also step in as the 13th referee.
Tennis Rules
The game begins with the selection of sides on the court and the coin toss to determine the person who will throw the baseline serve. One of the sides starts the game by throwing a serve. Each number won is scored in the form of 15, 30, 40 and a game. If the score is balanced as 40-40, the player who reaches a 2-point difference wins the game. We can say that it is exactly the same as the practice after the equalizations of 24-24 or 14-14 in volleyball sets. The tennis player who wins 6 games wins a set. The player who wins two of the 3 sets or three of the 5 sets also wins the match.
- The tennis match starts with a service shot. After this first stroke, the competition will begin.
- If the opposing player cannot respond to the ball thrown by the person using the service, the number becomes the player using the service.
- The person using the service has the right to make one move on the ball. If the ball used is caught in the net, it is called Let. In this case, the person using the service repeats the shot.
- If the player using the service again inserts the ball into the net again or throws it out, the number passes to the opposite side.
- If the opponent meets the service shot, the opponent will struggle to get two points. The fight lasts until one of the sides gets a number.
- It is necessary to hit the ball quickly with a racket to win a number.
How Long Does a Tennis Match Last?
There is no time in tennis matches, where every minute is filled with great excitement. In this special sport, it is not the time that matters, but the points and sets scored. For this reason, matches where the draw is not broken for a long time or the opponents catch each other one after the other can become extremely long. On the other hand, there may be tennis matches that end in a very short time as sets are won quickly.
