Hsieh Su-Wei and Jan Zielinski Win Mixed Doubles Championship and Win Trophy
LONDON (AP) — Hsieh Su-Wei is clinching her fourth Wimbledon title. She has built on that feat by winning four straight in her last four tournaments.
After advancing to the semifinals of the women’s doubles, Hsieh and Jan Zielinski beat Mexicans Santiago Gonzalez and Giuliana Olmos 6-4, 6-2 in the mixed doubles final on Centre Court on Sunday.
Olmos made a long return to win the match, and Hsieh and her partner Zielinski took a selfie as they sat in their chairs before the awards ceremony. Hsieh has won the doubles title in her last three Wimbledon appearances, making it four times in total, in 2019, 2021 and 2023. The tournament was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, and Hsieh was sidelined with an injury in 2022.
This is Hsieh’s first mixed doubles title at Wimbledon, while he and Zielinski also won the Australian Open this year.
“It’s a great opportunity to be on the court and an even greater honor to win,” Zielinski said at the post-match press conference. “Su-Wei’s experience played a big role in our return to Centre Court after the second round and getting past some tough opponents. I couldn’t be more proud of how we fought and how we gelled together as a team,” he said.
The mixed doubles final was played after Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic in the men’s final, and was the final match of this year’s Wimbledon tournament.
