Pride Day for the Tennis World: Nicolas Jarry Will Carry the Olympic Torch of a National Team
Nicolas Jarry announced that he will be one of Chile’s flag bearers at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This will be his first Olympic experience and he will take part with 48 Chilean athletes at the Opening Ceremony on July 26. Jarry, along with rowing athlete Antonia Abraham, will lead the Chilean delegation consisting of 19 different sports. The ceremony will take place on boats on the Seine River, a first in Olympic history, and will end at Trocadéro.
Jarry told La Tercera, one of Chile’s well-known newspapers, “I am very excited and honored to have the chance to represent my country at the Olympic Games. It is the dream of every athlete to carry our flag and wave it high. To fulfill this duty on a boat in Paris “It makes this experience even more special,” he said.
Jarry also stated that this task is a great responsibility and that he will try to enjoy this special moment
The Chilean tennis player took his place among the other tennis players who had the honor of carrying the flag at the Olympics. These tennis players include Roger Federer, who previously played this role for Switzerland, as well as names such as Novak Djokovic, Agnieszka Radwanska, Maria Sharapova, Stan Wawrinka, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Caroline Wozniacki.
In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which were held with a one-year delay due to the pandemic, a male and female athlete were chosen as joint flag bearers for the first time. These athletes included Lu Yen-hsun from Chinese Taipei, Veronica Cepede Royg from Paraguay, Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic and Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia.
Jarry’s tennis campaign will begin on July 27 at Roland Garros. Jarry, who lost to Corentin Moutet in the first round at Roland Garros after reaching the first ATP Masters 1000 final of his career in Rome, hopes to perform better this time.
